We’ve all been in the same situation before. It’s a stroke before midnight, your flight leaves at five in the morning, and you still haven’t packed. Overwhelmed by the number of clothes you intend to bring – arguably one too many pairs of pants for a tropical island destination – you realise not only do your clothes not fit in your suitcase, but it’s also a mess. Oh, the joy of trying to find that one top for a dinner reservation in a few minutes, only to discover it hiding between layers of denim jeans and the bikini top you thought you’d lost!

Luckily, thanks in large part to organisation TikTok, interest in packing cubes, compression cubes, and travel organisers has surged – making packing less time-consuming and far less stressful when it comes to finding your clothes or wondering whether you’ve overpacked. For me, my saviour was the Bagsmart 6PCS compression packing cubes on my two-month European holiday.

With a variety of sizes, materials, and features available, there’s plenty to choose from. So to make it easier, below we’ve curated the best-performing packing cubes and organisers in Australia, so you can focus all your energy on the destination rather than the journey.

Are packing cubes worth it for traveling?

Yes, packing cubes are highly worth it for travel. During my European sojourn backpacking across nine countries, I used the Bagsmart compression packing cubes which allowed me to pack extra for my two-month trip. They were also a great organisational hack, especially when I booked multi-day excursions, as I could easily access the large compression cube where I put all my clothes for two or more days. The compression feature was another advantage, as I was carrying a large Osprey backpack, meaning efficiency and ease of access were essential.

Which is better, packing cubes or compression cubes?

Choosing between packing cubes and compression cubes depends on the kind of journey you’re on, the baggage you’re using, and the amount of clothing you’re carrying. Compression cubes allow clothing to be compressed and reduced in size, helping with organisation and maximising how much you can pack. Packing cubes, on the other hand, are great for organisation, particularly in suitcases, as they make unpacking quicker and easier, so you can spend more time enjoying your trip.

How many packing cubes do you need for a two-week trip?

For a two-week holiday, we recommend four to six packing cubes for a large suitcase. We recommend packing by item type, such as pants in one cube, to find clothes easier. Use compression cubes to save maximum space for longer trips.
