There’s one type of travel that truly tests the limits of your luggage, and that’s a multi-city tour on the other side of the world. Flying from Sydney to Marrakech via Doha, then onwards to Casablanca, Volubilis, Fes, Chefchaouen and back again, a suitcase has to navigate taxis, airports, buses, riads and even the occasional souk. If it can survive all that, it can probably survive anything. Here’s how the July Casesafe checked luggage fared.Â
Our verdict
The July checked luggage delivered where it counts – I was able to squeeze in all my shopping (including a rug!), track my bag effortlessly with its built-in tracking and glide easily through airports and over cobblestone streets alike. The inconsistent colour match across materials made it feel a tad less premium, but the price point reflects this. Overall, this case offers outstanding value – just budget a little extra for some matching packing cubes, which July also sells.

How we tested it
Over ten days, the July suitcase accompanied me on many a flight, sat in the boot of several taxis and survived several long drives in a minivan alongside other suitcases and my friend’s newly purchased tagine. It was also taken through its paces up several flights of stairs (it’s not uncommon for there to be no lift in historic riads!). I checked on it throughout my trip via Find My on my iPhone and never had trouble tracking it down, which brought me peace on more than a few occasions.Â
Where the July suitcase really shone
The July checked luggage delivered where it counts: it holds a lot, is easy to track and comfortable to wheel around. I chose the on-trend chocolate colourway, which at least at the moment isn’t popular enough so it was super easy to find my bag on every carousel. I tracked my bag effortlessly across multiple Moroccan cities with the integrated tracking, glided through airports and over ancient medina cobblestones on wheels that outperformed my friend’s luxury suitcase, and packed confidently knowing the polycarbonate shell could handle whatever my journey threw at it.
The wheels were a surprising highlight. My friend had a significantly more expensive European suitcase and throughout the trip, the wheels on the July suitcase outperformed hers. The 360-degree spin made manoeuvring through narrow riad corridors effortless, and after ten days, there’s no visible wear and no wobbling.
The built-in tracking worked perfectly, even when mobile data was patchy. When my suitcase was delayed on a connection through Casablasa, I could see exactly where it was (still in the airport) which meant I could relax with a mint tea instead of spiralling. The 20-height telescopic handle locked securely at every position with no issues (most suitcases only offer 2-3 height options), and the capacity hit the sweet spot for my ten-day trip. I packed loosely, used the Y-Strap compression system and still had room for a small hand-woven rug.
Where it felt short
The case, zippers and bumpers are all chocolate – but different shades. Admittedly, this might not bother most people, but I wish the shade match was closer. This may not be as apparent in other colourways but I felt like it reduced the premium feel a bit.
In addition, the aluminium corner bumpers are both a blessing and a curse. They’re genuinely protective, since they’re designed to absorb impact that would otherwise transfer to the main case. But they scratch easily. Nearly every July review mentions this, and after my trip, I understand why. The anodised coating shows scuffs and reveals bare metal underneath. After ten days, the corners had visible wear. It doesn’t affect functionality, but for a suitcase at this price point, you’d hope it wouldn’t show wear after one trip.
And finally, I would have hoped for integrated packing cubes. The suitcase comes with a Y-Strap compression system and a nylon stain-proof laundry bag (a nice touch). But for a brand that’s clearly courting the organised, intentional traveller, this feels like a missed opportunity to include matching organisation.

Other features I liked
July offers a 100-day risk-free trial. If you take it on a trip and it doesn’t work for you, just send it back. The lifetime warranty backs this up further. July also offers free monogramming, which is a nice personalisation touch if you’re giving this as a gift or want to make your suitcase instantly identifiable on the carousel.
One feature I didn’t use but appreciated knowing about if I buy more July luggage: the suitcase nests inside July’s larger checked sizes for home storage. If you live in a small space, this is genuinely useful.

Final thoughts
The July checked luggage is an excellent mid-to-premium option for frequent travellers who value smart features and performance. Its CaseSafe tracking technology works perfectly, the wheels are possibly the best I’ve tested and the handle makes it genuinely pleasant to travel with. The inconsistent finish across materials and fragility of the aluminium bumpers will bother the aesthetically inclined among us, but they aren’t dealbreakers. If you’re the type of traveller who needs to track your luggage, values smooth rolling through busy airports and can accept that the aluminium bumpers will show some wear while still protecting your investment, the July checked luggage is an excellent choice. The 100-day trial means you can test it risk-free, and the lifetime warranty means you’re protected long-term.
