Its unique blend of Bavarian tradition and modern cosmopolitan life draws in a diverse mix of travellers, not to mention its world-renowned museums and authentic beer culture. Its contradictions are what bring the city to life and offer up a unique place to reside.

Where to stay in Munich?

For a first-time visit, the best areas to stay in Munich are the Old Town or Maxvorstadt for proximity to attractions. As for hotels, stay in the Old Town for location, Kempinski or Bayerischer Hof for grandeur, Rosewood or Mandarin Oriental for intimate five-star luxury and Andaz or The Dean for something younger and more casual.

How many days in Munich is enough?

We recommend at least three days in Munich, preferably four, to cover the essential sights, experience a beer hall or two and to take a day trip to the Bavarian Alps. However, if you’re visiting specifically for Oktoberfest, which runs for 16 to 18 days, most visitors find two to three days is the sweet spot. We also recommend booking your hotel at least six to twelve months in advance as accommodation does book up fast.

What is the best month to visit Munich?

The best months to visit Munich are May, September, and October, for weather and Oktoberfest season, though December is a magical alternative if you’re drawn to the city’s renowned Christmas markets.
