Cruising is entering a new golden age – one defined by space, sophistication and genuine hospitality. For today’s luxury traveller, the appeal lies in the seamlessness: unpack once, wake somewhere different each day, and experience a level of service, dining and design that rivals the world’s best hotels. From regionally inspired menus to thoughtfully curated shore experiences, the value of cruising now extends far beyond the journey itself.
Oceania Cruises has long been regarded as the cruise line created by food lovers, for food lovers – widely celebrated for serving the finest cuisine at sea. Alongside its culinary credentials, the luxury line is known for its thoughtfully curated itineraries, calling at lesser-known ports and offering immersive, small-group shore experiences that go far beyond the expected.
Now, Oceania Cruises is building on that legacy with the introduction of its Sonata Class vessels. The first of five, Oceania Sonata, brings together elevated dining, refined design and an even greater sense of space. Oceania Sonata signals a new chapter in the line’s already distinctive approach to luxury at sea.
Flavours to savour
With the debut of Oceania Sonata comes the launch of two dining concepts: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen. La Table offers an enhancement of Oceania Cruises’ already notable culinary credentials by developing, in partnership with Master Chefs of France (MCF), what could be the most exclusive fine dining restaurant at sea – with seating for just 18 guests.

Oceania Cruises’ two Executive Culinary Directors, and Master Chefs of France, Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale, will create a rotation of exquisite menus in tandem with specially invited Master Chefs of France from around the world. Nikkei Kitchen offers guests a chance to experience the intriguing Nikkei cuisine – a harmonious blend of Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques.
This commitment to food is not reserved while onboard. The onshore excursions are designed to deliver a deeper connection to the place, people and cuisine of each destination. Intimate and exclusive experiences can include market tours with local chefs to private wine tastings in family-run estates.
Suite symphony
One of the most lavish upgrades aboard Oceania Sonata is to the scale of the suites – both in sheer number (33 per cent of the accommodation is now suites), and in floor space and amenities. The Suites offer design features including wraparound verandas and uninterrupted ocean views.
“We have listened closely to the desires of our guests. Oceania Sonata is a triumph of spacious design and meticulous craftsmanship,” says Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises.
It’s not hard to imagine spending an evening on your private veranda – somewhere between Zihuatanejo and the Panama Canal – savouring a glass of something cold in hand with the Pacific darkening at the horizon.

Destination luxury
The inaugural season of Oceania Sonata opens with a 14-day maiden voyage departing Rome on 7 August 2027, threading through Catania, Valletta, Katakolon and the walled Croatian port of Zadar before arriving in Trieste.
This magical trip includes time in Barcelona, Athens and Lisbon followed by a journey into less charted waters with visits to Sarandë, Paros, and Palamós. There is also the opportunity for guests to fully immerse themselves with overnight stays in Istanbul, Livorno and Bordeaux.
After her Mediterranean season, Oceania Sonata crosses the Atlantic to Miami, then pivots south to reef-fringed Barbados in the Caribbean. From here the expedition takes in the beautiful island of Tortola and the lesser-known colourful town of Zihuatanejo.
For those who believe travel should be as much about what’s on the plate as what’s on the horizon, Oceania Sonata charts a compelling course forward.
